Sitting at your desk or sitting playing video games for prolong periods of time can cause back pain.  Sitting incorrectly can cause biochemical changes in the back. It is important to take breaks and if you do not you can develop poor posture in your back. When you take a break, get up out of your chair and do some stretching exercises for your back pain.  Having you work space or area looked at for ergonomically correct positioning is important to reduce your back pain.

Prolong standing and bending can aggravate your back.  Remember to bend properly, by bending your knees or doing a golfer’s bend.  If you are standing for a prolong period of time at the sink and there is a cupboard below, open the cupboard and put your foot up on the shelf.  Switch back and forth and this should help alleviate some of your back pain.

Sleeping in an incorrect position is not good for your back.  If you wake up with back pain, it could be the result of a bad sleeping position. Sleeping on your side with a pillow between you legs to not let your back “cave” will help while you are sleeping with your back pain.  Sleeping on your stomach is not only bad for your back but also your neck.

Lifting heavy items by yourself is usually not a good idea to do.  If something is heavy, first test the load. If the load seems like you will be able to lift, lift by squatting, bending your legs and knees and get close to the floor.  Pull the item close to you and lift up avoid twisting your back.

Carrying backpacks or carrying purses that are heavy give extra pressure on your shoulders, arms and back. The best way to avoid this is to either carry over both shoulders or sling it over your shoulder switching from one shoulder to the other.

Stress is a factor in everyday life.  With stress, the body releases adrenaline and cortisol which can trigger muscle spasms.  Getting rid of stress by mediation or exercise can help get rid of back pain or any pain.
