The Do’s and Don’ts  of Lifting

Don’t: Just pick up a load.  Do: Test the load and if too heavy always ask for help.

Don’t: Just lift.  Do: Plan and inspect your path making sure there is nothing impeding you.

Don’t: Bend at the waist lifting with your back.  Do: Bend at the knees, squat lifting with your legs.

Don’t: Hold the weight/object far away from your body as weight becomes exponentially greater the further away it gets.  Do: Keep weight as close to you as possible.

Don’t: When placing the item down bend at the waist this puts stress on the back.  Do: When placing the item down bend at the knees, squat using your legs not your back.

If you have questions about the do’s and don’ts of lifting, please give my office a call at (818)881-2225. I do lectures to organizations on correct lifting techniques and other subjects.  If you would like for me to lecture you may contact my office to schedule a lecture.
