Helpful Hints That Can Help You Avoid Lower Back Pain or Neck Pain

Here at Steven B Perry DC, we know how disrupted lower back pain can be to your everyday life. Although we offer many services from chiropractic care to physical therapy modalities to help you when you're feeling out of whack, we also encourage preventative care to avoid injury. The following tips are all great ways to take care of your body:

- When sitting take your wallet out of your back pocket. This will keep you more balanced while
you are sitting or driving. Good balance can help lessen neck and back pain.

- When sitting in the car, position your seat closer to the wheel as this elevates your feet making
your knees higher than your hips. This flattens the curvature of your lower back and stacks the
vertebras over each other.

- When sitting at your desk use a small stool, box or backpack to elevate your feet making your
knees higher than your hips. This flattens the curvature of your lower back and stacks the
vertebras over each other.

- When getting out of bed, don’t just pop up like Frankenstein. This puts too much stress on your
neck and back. Roll over on to your side near the edge of the bed. Use your pelvis/ hip as a
fulcrum or pivot point. Bend your knees and place your elbow and opposite hand on the bed on
the side you are laying to push you up. At the same time you push yourself up, use the weight
of your legs as they leave the bed to push you up into a sitting position.

- When prolonged standing, elevate one leg by putting one foot on a stool. You can accomplish
this when brushing your teeth or washing dishes by opening the cabinet and putting one foot on
the shelf. This flattens the curvature of your lower back and stacks the vertebras over each
other.
