Dr. Steven Perry’s Chiropractor Tarzana Advice on Avoiding Back Injury

How You Lift:

If you lift heavy boxes, trash bags, laundry baskets, groceries, or anything else that is heaving this can affect the health of your back.  If you lift correctly, your spine is aligned and your back is not affected.  Remember when lifting, bring the object close to you and bend your knees and lift with your legs. If you need to lift something very heavy it is a good idea to set the object or box on a table or chair so you don’t have to bend over.

Move Your Body:

Performing exercises with your back in mind might help you prevent injury. Stretch before any physical activity, take it easy while lifting heavy objects, and take pauses to rest and stretch during the activity. Your core is extremely important to prevent injuries and keep a strong back to make lifting easier.

If you end up with a back injury, in spite your efforts to avoid it, you should seek treatment with a Dr. Steven Perry, D.C.  Spinal misalignment, bulging discs, herniated discs, and other injuries often only get worse if you let them linger. Prompt treatment will restore blood flow to the area, relieve any compressed nerves and get you back to normal in the shortest time possible.
